What is Darija?
Darija is Moroccan Arabic — the language 36 million Moroccans actually speak every day. It blends Arabic with Amazigh, French, and Spanish influences, and it's famously hard to find good translation tools for.
Google Translate doesn't cover it. That's why we built this.
Community-powered
Moroccans all over the world contribute and review new translations, so the dictionary keeps improving.

Frequently asked questions
Is Darija Translator free?
Yes! Darija Translator is completely free.
What's the difference between Darija and Arabic?
Darija is the language of everyday life in Morocco. It's rooted in Arabic and enriched with Amazigh, French, and Spanish — a blend that's uniquely Moroccan, with its own words, rhythm, and personality.
What is the yaz?
The yaz (ⵣ) is a letter from Tifinagh, the ancient Amazigh alphabet native to North Africa. It's a proud symbol of Amazigh identity and Morocco's heritage — which is why we chose it as our icon. It's the little symbol you'll click in your toolbar to translate.
Does Google Translate support Darija?
Darija isn't one of Google Translate's languages yet, so we built a tool made just for it — with a dictionary shaped by Moroccans who actually speak it.
Can I contribute translations?
Yes, and we'd love that! Sign in with Google inside the extension, submit your translations, and they join the shared dictionary right away — every contribution makes the tool better for everyone.
Does it work offline?
Yes! The core dictionary lives inside the extension, so you can translate anywhere — even with no connection. Hop online whenever you want the newest community translations or to contribute your own.
